Edwin Voorhees - Fine Artist
I'm living in South Philadelphia working at two different city owned golf courses. I grew up in a family of artists in North Carolina and still occasionally show with them in Asheville. I am primarily a photographer, but I do paint some, generally with a large digital art tablet. I also have done some metal sculpture (I weld, oxy, MIG, TIG, stick) and some blacksmithing.
My passion is the landscape, but increasingly I have embraced the challenge of showcasing golf venues and their architecture. It's a lanscape of a different nature...instead of a person for scale, as in classical landscapes, you get a flagstick (or a golfer or two). Featuring a green requires some portrait techniques to highlight the strengths and minimize the blemishes (dew, or leaves in the bunkers, for instance) either on site or in post (Photoshop). As a greenskeeper, I am fully aware of what my GC superentendant wants our course(s) to look like (I implement that every day), so communicating that through the camera lens becomes an extension of that work. I also travel, generally, with an eye for photography and occasionally painting, with my wife and two dogs whenever possible.
